Today is World Sparrow Day. The tree sparrow population in the UK has suffered a severe decline, estimated at 93 per cent between 1970 and 2008. Latest Breeding Bird Survey data suggests the decline may have stopped and populations might be increasing slightly but we still have a long way to go.
