Great grey shrikes (Lanius excubitor) are a winter visitor to the UK. I’ve seen them in several places such as Gibraltar Point (Lincolnshire), Spurn Point (Yorkshire), Cuckney Forest (Nottinghamshire) and Grimes Graves (Norfolk). Today I added Crabtree Hill in the Forest of Dean to that list. If I am honest, the bird was easier to find than the location itself, if you haven’t been to the Forest of Dean then its worth knowing that its a bit of a maze and easy to get lost around. Eventually caught up with the bird though and took a short video of him swaying in the wind.
