Me and garganey (Anasquerquedula) don’t have the best of relationships. They are often described as secretive and are scare summer visitors to the UK. Most of my attempts to see them seem to end in me hearing them making their geiger counter-like calls from within a thick reedbed. On the rare occasion that I do manage to see one, they tend to be asleep. This individual compounded that by not only being asleep but being asleep behind an egret!
