I’m not a botanist and don’t pretend to be one on the internet but I can appreciate some rare and interesting plants when I come across them.
Keen of Hamar is an unusual geological reserve and home to special interest plants that have adapted to survive on the rare serpentine rock found on Unst, Shetland. Keen of Hamar is protected as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation.
Plants like Edmondston’s chickweed for example, is unique to Britain’s most northerly island and is the star attraction. Several more common plants show peculiar serpentine growth forms.
