The black redstart (Phoenicurus ochruros) is a robin-sized bird that has adapted to live in urban and industrial areas from its original coastal cliff-side habitat. Less than a hundred pairs breed in the UK but the numbers are swelled with winter visitors like this one which was on the beach at Brean in Somerset.
